Girl arrested for sending prank email to TN CM

Chennai: A 20-year old girl, working as a computer operator, was arrested in Chennai for sending a prank e-mail threatening Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, police said today (April 1, 2005).

Kalaivani sent the e-mail to the private Jaya TV while she was on duty at a granite company on March 14. A senior official of the channel immediately lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime Bureau in Chennai.

In the e-mail, Kalaivani had said, "Beware Chief Minister. It is not a message, but a warning by the LTTE gunpower group. You will never win in MLA elections. After you are failing, you can be killed. Coming December 2, 2006 you will be killed by us. Sorry. Take it seriously - by LTTE Gunpower group", police said.

The e-mail was sent in the name of one Kathirvel and the e-mail ID given was "James233@yahoo.co.in", police said.

Investigation led to Kalaivani who was arrested in the suburban Red Hills this morning and produced before a court, which remanded her to judicial custody for 15-days, police, said.

Meanwhile, police sources said the girl, while being questioned by the investigators had said that she had sent as a prank and was sure it would not be discovered.
