A B Bardhan re-elected as CPI general secretary

Chandigarh: Veteran communist leader A B Bardhan was today (Apr 3, 2005) re-elected as general secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI) for the third consecutive term for period of three years.

The party also elected its National Council, which in turn elected the National Executive and the members of the National Secretariat.

Addressing the members at a concluding ceremony of the CPI's 19th Congress in Chandigarh, today evening, which included party members from all across the country and fraternal delegates from abroad, party secretary D Raja read out the names of the party office bearers.

Besides Bardhan, other members of the National Secretariat include P K Vasudevan Nair, Gaya Singh, Gurudas Dasgupta, Nandagopal Bhattacharya, Shameem Faizee, S Sudhakar Reddy, D Raja and Amarjeet Kar.

K C Bansal was re-elected as treasurer and V G Soma Sundaram has been elected as assistant treasurer.

Out of 31 members of the National Executive, the 125 members National Council today elected only 25 members, as some States are yet to complete their conferences.
