Advani to visit Pak in June on 'goodwill mission'
Monday, April 4 2005 16:32 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Islamabad: BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) President L K Advani would visit Pakistan in June on a goodwill mission to promote political contacts between the leaders of both the countries and to inaugurate a renovated Hindu temple in Lahore, ruling PML-Q (Pakistan Muslim League Quaid-e-Azam) Secretary Mushahid Hussain has said.

During his visit Advani would inaugurate a temple in Lahore, and travel to Karachi and Peshawar, said Hussain who along with PML-Q President and former Prime Minister Shujaat Hussain met Advani when they visited Delhi recently.

Hussain claimed that the former Premier while inviting Advani conveyed a message that his party (BJP) was responsible for demolishing Babri mosque while "We are reviving and renovating a Hindu temple," according to 'The News daily'.

Last month CPM (Communist Party of India-Marxist) General Secretary Harkishen Singh Surjeet had visited a dilapidated jail building at Lahore, where he was incarcerated by the British Government during the freedom struggle.

Pakistan wants Advani visit show bipartisan consensus in India about the ongoing peace process and quest for solution to resolve the Kashmir issue, Hussain said.

Former Prime Minister Shujaat Hussain, who interacted with the Indian leadership during his four-day visit to New Delhi, said he was deeply impressed by the unity demonstrated by Indian political leaders on issues relating to India's national interests.

When asked Hussain said one thing that impressed him most was that the Government and Opposition was united and spoke in one voice on the issues of national interests.

"It is unfortunate that we lack such unity and consensus on even issues of vital national importance," he said.

Advani was scheduled to visit Pakistan during the ongoing recess of the Budget Session of Parliament but postponed his plans to meet President Pervez Musharraf who is going to Delhi on April 16 to watch India-Pakistan one-day cricket match the next day.
