Best Bakery case: Police video unveils many truths
Tuesday, April 5 2005 11:41 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Mumbai: The special court conducting the Best Bakery re-trial yesterday (Apr 4, 2005) viewed a video that showed police rescuing victims of the Best Bakery carnage in Vadodara during the post-Godhra riots on March 2, 2002.

The video is considered an important piece of evidence as it showed prime witness Zaheera Shaikh's sister-in-law Yasmeen and grandmother in the bakery although Zaheera's family had denied in the court the duo's presence at the place during the day of the incident.

The court viewed an hour-long tape which had shots taken during the period between March 1 to March 5, 2002.

Spotlight: Godhra-Chilling stories of the victims

The video showed persons lying dead outside the bakery as well as the injured persons who were rescued in the aftermath of the attack.

The video showed one of the victims bleeding profusely with injuries all over. He was also spitting blood.

Firemen were seen bringing out two children whose bodies had joined each other, while one of the bodies had stiffened.

Gautam Chauhan, the video cameraman was telling the court about the visuals.

The video also had prime witness Zaheera Shaikh dressed in a yellow suit and watching the firemen dousing the fire.

There were two other women in the video, which the prosecution said were Zaheera's sister-in-law Yasmeen Shaikh and grandmother.

Zaheera and her family members have denied the presence of the two at the bakery when the incident took place.
