BJP attack against Sonia 'unwarranted': Congress
Tuesday, April 5 2005 15:46 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Taking strong objection to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP's) attack on party Chief Sonia Gandhi as "unwarranted", Congress today (Apr 5, 2005) said it reflected the desperation of the saffron party's leadership.

"It (the attack) is unwarranted and politically motivated to mislead the people. It reflects the desperation of the BJP leadership, which is directionless and devoid of any substantive issue," party spokesman Anand Sharma said on telephone from Ahmedabad.

Asserting that Congress President and the party had an abiding commitment to India's constitutional democracy and needed no certificate from the BJP, which had mounted a "systematic assault" on Constitutional institutions while in power.

Attacking Sonia at its National Executive meeting in New Delhi the BJP's draft resolution said the upshot of developments in Goa and Jharkhand was that the people of India have come to know the "real truth as against the manufactured myth" about the Congress President.
