BJP's plan of action for Assembly polls next year
Tuesday, April 5 2005 11:08 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would finalise an action plan at its national executive in New Delhi today (Apr 5, 2005) to prepare its rank and filed for the Assembly elections in West Bengal, Assam, Kerala and Pondicherry next year (2006).

The plan will also outline the party's strategy seeking to use the outcome of recent Assembly polls in Bihar and Jharkhand and political developments there as well as in Goa, where the party-led Government was sacked, to its advantage.

A political resolution highlighting the prevailing situation in the country under the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government will be adopted at the national executive.

The action plan as also the resolution will be taken up by the national council meeting a day after.

"The party will flag the anti-democratic manner in which the Centre dealt with the situation arising in Bihar and Jharkhand after the Assembly elections as also the manner in which the BJP-led Government in Goa was dismissed by the Governor," party sources said.

Spotlight: Elections 2005

Briefing reporters after a meeting of the Office Bearers chaired by party president L K Advani, BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley said, "The draft political resolution was finalised as also the programmes to be held in the course of the year to mark the party's silver jubilee celebrations."

He said the draft political resolution would be discussed at the National Executive today before being taken up on the next day at the National Council.

Sources indicated the action plan for Assembly elections in West Bengal and Assam would give emphasis to concerns over demographic changes in the two states bordering Bangladesh following infiltration from that country.

The party would be staging nationwide programmes to commemorate its silver jubilee till the end of the current year in State capitals, sources said.

"Our thrust would be to focus on the achievements of the party and how to involve party workers from the grassroots level. Each worker would be asked to inform the party at the end of the year on what work has been done with focus on developmental activities."

"The party has asked its cadres to undertake work like tree plantation, involvement with Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and such other work which would help in the overall economic and social uplift of the people," the sources said.

A meeting of State office-bearers would be held on April 7, when the party president would be given a detailed account of the preparation by the party units in the States where Assembly elections are slated for next year.
