The UPA Govt is beginning to 'disintegrate': BJP Tuesday, April 5 2005 14:32 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today (Apr 5, 2005) sought to put the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government on the mat on all fronts slamming it as "one of the most non-performing and contradiction-ridden regimes since Independence and one that is headed by the weakest Prime Minister India has had".
"Born of a non-mandate, the UPA Government has little to show as concrete achievement so far. Its only achievement is that it is about to complete one year in office...a year of betrayal of practically every promise contained in the arrangement's Common Minimum Programme (CMP)," the party said in a draft resolution on the political scenario discussed at the special session of its National Executive to mark the party's silver jubilee.
Claiming that with each passing week, the "disarray" in the UPA was growing, it said the ruling alliance has now begun to exhibit "signs of disintegration".
"This disarray is not limited to Bihar where the leaders of the two important constituent parties of UPA, both of whom are Cabinet Ministers, have openly traded charges of corruption and wrong doing against each other.
In Andhra Pradesh, the Congress is on a warpath with Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Chief publicly demanded sacking of a Congress Minister in the UPA Government, who belongs to Tamil Nadu.
"The two Communist parties, who provide critical life saving support to the UPA Government, have become increasingly harsh in their criticism of the Government...the common thread that runs through all these developments is the rapidly eroding political authority, moral standing and trustworthiness of the Congress party within the UPA," the resolution said.
Noting that the Congress party heads the UPA, but provides no leadership to it, the resolution said this was in stark contrast to how Atal Bihari Vajpayee led the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and how the BJP nurtured bonds of mutual trust and understanding within the alliance.
Attacking Sonia Gandhi, the resolution said the upshot of developments in Goa and Jharkhand was that the people of India have come to know the "real truth as against the manufactured myth" about the Congress President.
"This truth is further accentuated by the deliberate manner in which the Congress has undermined the authority and prestige of the office and person of the Prime Minister and allowed herself to be projected as a 'Super Prime Minister' one who exercises all authority with no accountability to Parliament," it said.
Taking a dig at what it called as "self projection by the Congress party's 'dynastic' leadership" it said there is only one area where the UPA Government has been hyperactive - namely, in naming schemes, programmes and projects after the Nehru dynasty. Many of these are schemes unveiled by the NDA Government, which have now been clubbed together and given a "dynastic wrapup".
"The Congress party is so crude and brazen in this regard that it has tried to derive political mileage even out of the Tsunami tragedy by naming the scheme of financial package for Tsunami affected people after Rajiv Gandhi. If the Congress leadership had its way, it would probably have no hesitation in changing the name of India after the 'Dynasty'," the resolution said.
