Sankararaman murder: Hearing adjourned to April 7 Tuesday, April 5 2005 19:54 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Kancheepuram:
A local court today (Apr 5, 2005) adjourned hearing of arguments in the Sankararaman murder case to April 7.
Judicial first class magistrate G Uthamaraj said that all the accused who had appeared in court today for hearing the deposition of Ravi Subramaniam, accused-turned-approver in the case, should come again on that day.
On March 31, copies of the chargesheet in the murder case were furnished to the 24 accused including Kanchi seers, Jayendra Saraswathi and Vijayendra Saraswathi. The Judicial Magistrate had adjourned the case to today for the prosecution to examine Ravi Subramaniam before committing the case to the sessions court.
Ravi Subramaniam was to have deposed before the magistrate today but defence counsel for Appu, one of the main accused in the case, argued that before proceeding, the court should furnish a copy of the statement made by Ravi Subramaniam while turning approver in the case, to Appu in Telugu, which was his mother tongue.
But the prosecution argued that Appu had studied in the Thyagaraja High School in Chennai with second language as Tamil and hence this was "redundant." Defence counsel insisted that Prosecution should file a counter to their petition.
