The historic Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus, scheduled to roll out tomorrow (Apr 7, 2005), has been named Kaarwan-e-Aaman (caravan of peace).
The name has been approved by Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Mangat Ram Sharma, at a high-level meeting in Muzaffarabad, official sources said.
Four names of the bus were short listed by a panel constituted for the purpose, they said adding the Deputy Chief Minister chose one of them.
The committee comprised Director-General Tourism, Director Information, Additional Secretary to the Chief Minister and Secretary of Academy of Art, Culture and
Languages.
It approved four names after scrutinising nearly 1350 names sent by people from across the country.
The Government has announced a prize of Rs 10,000 for the best entry.
Since six people, Madan Mantoo, M S Wani, Takhmeen Ahmad Darzi, Parveena Akhtar, Ifham Itrat Rafiqi and Bal Krishan Sharma had proposed the name selected by the Deputy Chief Minister, the prize money would be equally distributed among them, the sources said.
