BJP is not a pro-Hindu party, says Ashok Singhal Friday, April 8 2005 12:55 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Thiruvananthapuram:
Asserting that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was not a pro-Hindu party, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) president Ashok Singhal today (Apr 8, 2005) said at the six-year rule of BJP had left the Hindus in the country as "orphans" with "no political future".
"As far as VHP was concerned, BJP is not different from other parties. BJP is secular and secular means anti-Hindu," the VHP leader told a press meet in Thiruvananthapuram.
Asked if he was suggesting that BJP had ceased to be part of the Sangh Parivar, Singhal said, "There is nothing like parivar or sangh. We are a separate organisations."
The Jan Sangh used to be a pro-Hindu party but the day it became BJP things had changed, he said.
He said that the Hindus in the country had been humiliated with the arrest of Kanchi Shankaracharya and there was strong political reaction against the Seer's arrest.
Though the VHP had no plan to float a separate political outfit, Singhal said a "Hindu cyclone is going to rage over the country in the coming days against the humiliations and discriminations suffered by the community".
Touching a range of issues from move to extend SC benefits to Dalit converts to lapses in rehabilitation of tsunami hit people in Kerala, he said "there are politicians who speak for Hindus but do nothing for the Hindus".
