Producers of the film 'Black Friday' approach SC Friday, April 8 2005 22:27 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
The producers of the controversial film 'Black Friday', based on the 1993 serial bomb blast in Mumbai, today (Apr 8, 2005) challenged before the Supreme Court the ban on screening of the movie.
The petition seeking release of the film in the theatres was mentioned before a Bench comprising Chief Justice R C Lahoti and Justice G P Mathur which fixed April 21 for its hearing.
The petition filed by the makers of the film Mid-Day Multimedia Limited has sought expeditious hearing on its appeal challenging the Bombay High Court judgement staying the screening of the movie, claimed to have been based on a book of identical name.
The High Court had stayed the screening of the much-hyped movie saying the screening could influence the public opinion even though the producers had given an undertaking before the designated TADA court, which is trying the case, to display a disclaimer before screening of the film.
An accused in the March 12, 1993 serial blast case Moostafa Moosa Tarani had protested against the release of the movie saying that the trial in the case, on which the movie is based, is yet to conclude.
