SC allows MP Pappu Yadav to be taken to AIIMS Friday, April 8 2005 19:37 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, shifted to Tihar Jail in Delhi to curb his illegal antics, was today (Apr 8, 2005) permitted by the Supreme Court to undergo treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.
Satisfied with report of a team of doctors from Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi in this regard, a Bench comprising Justice N Santosh Hegde and Justice S B Sinha directed the
Tihar Jail Authority to make arrangement to take Yadav to AIIMS for medical examination.
The Bench said the doctors would have to determine whether the MP is required to be treated as out-patient or in-patient and submit its medical report before it within 10 days.
The Court said in the event the medical examination required the necessity of treating him as an in-patient, the jail authority will have to make proper security arrangements and his visitors would be confined to nearest family members only.
Yadav's counsel had told the court that his health had deteriorated due to lack of medical facilities and his weight had reached 200 kilograms making him apprehensive about his cardiac health. The wound on the leg had also become worse and required immediate attention, he had said.
Yadav is facing trial in the murder of Ajit Sarkar, CPM (Communist Party of India-Marxist) leader from Purnea in Bihar.
