Uma ends 'maunvrat'; skipped jubilee celebrations Friday, April 8 2005 09:37 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Shahdol (MP):
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Uma Bharti, who skipped the party's special silver jubilee National Council session in Delhi, ended her four-day "maunvrat" (vow of silence) last evening (Apr 7, 2005) at a temple in Amarkantak, about 100km from Shahdol, and said she would talk to the media at "an appropriate time".
After breaking her "maunvrat", she went to a temple and performed puja before shifting to an ashram where she had been staying for the past four days.
She declined to talk to the media and said she would say at "an appropriate time".
It was in Amarkantak where Uma was initiated as a sanyasin 13 years ago.
BJP's fiery sanyasin had reached Amarkantak on April 3 and had been participating in several religious programmes even while the party celebrated its silver jubilee in New Delhi.
