Vadodara:
A court yesterday (Apr 8, 2005) ordered police inquiry into the Best Bakery case prime accused Zaheera Sheikh's allegations that she never signed any affidavit requesting Supreme Court to order re-trial in the case.
The order was delivered by Chief Judicial First Class Magistrate C D Waghela on the basis of Zaheera's affidavit submitted to the Vadodara district collector in November last year (2004), Atyachar Ane Nagrik Anyaya Nivaran Samiti president Chetan Gore, who moved the court demanding inquiry into the allegations, told sources.
Gore said he moved to the court after failing to get proper response from the city police commissioner and State Home Department to conduct inquiry into the allegations made by Zaheera Sheikh in her affidavit.
Gore, who is in possession of a copy of the said affidavit, said that Zaheera had alleged that she was threatened to sign the papers.
She said that she never signed an affidavit requesting Supreme Court to order retrial in the Best Bakery case, Gore said.
Zaheera said that she had signed some papers after social activists Teesta Setalwad, former city deputy Mayor Mohammed Vora and several others told her that the signature on the papers were obtained for transfer of her father's property in her name.
Zaheera had also alleged that she along with her family members were kidnapped by Teesta and others and were kept in confinement in Mumbai for seven months.
