Charles, Camilla will admit their sin after wedding
Saturday, April 9 2005 10:05 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

London: All set to tie the knot after years of having a relationship, Britain's Prince Charles and his bride-to-be Camilla will admit they have sinned and beg pardon at a religious blessing following their marriage today (Apr 9, 2005).

As millions tune in to watch their wedding, the couple will acknowledge their "manifold sins and wickedness" and express regrets.

It will be seen as Charles's first public apology for his relation with Camilla while married to Diana. He had confessed being unfaithful in a television interview in June 1994.

Charles and Camilla will beg for forgiveness at their 45-minute service of dedication at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, immediately after their wedding at Guildhall.

During the blessing by Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, the couple will join the congregation in reading the strongest act of penance from the Anglican Church's 1662 Book of Common Prayer. This was chosen in place of more modern prayers of penance for divorcees, as both Charles and Parker Bowles are.

Charles and Camilla will then offer vows as the Queen and 800 guests look on.

The Archbishop will say, "Charles, have you resolved to be faithful to your wife, forsaking all others, so long as you both shall live?" Charles will reply, "That is my resolve, with the help of God."

The same will be asked to Camilla. The royal couple will then kneel and pledge "our love for one another".

Details of the big day were released as it emerged Charles and Camilla will stick to tradition and not spend the night before their wedding together.

Although the pair lived together for nearly three years, the Prince will be at Highgrove after flying back from Rome after the Pope John Paul II's funeral yesterday (Apr 8, 2005).

Camilla spent last night at Clarence House, Charles' official London home. Today morning the couple will change into their outfits in separate rooms at Windsor Castle.

The wedding has been plagued by misfortune including a change of venue, change of date because of the Pope's funeral, the suggestion the marriage is illegal and the refusal of the Queen to attend the ceremony.

Even when Charles and Camilla return to the Castle after marrying, the Queen will not be there to greet them.

Instead, she will be sitting down to a lunch with members of foreign royal families. Thirty guests will see Charles and Camilla formally tie the knot. They include Princess Andrew, Edward, William and Harry and Princess Anne.

Also there will be ex-Calvin Klein model Harry Lopes, who is dating Camilla's daughter Laura, and Sara Buys, the fiancee of Camilla's son Tom.

Celebrity guests at the blessing include NRI Sanjeev Bhaskar and Meera Syal, stars of the Kumars at No 42.

Two thousand members of the public have passes enter the Windsor Castle on the day. They include representatives of some of Charles's charities.

The newlyweds will leave to board a plane at RAF Northolt bound for Aberdeen later in the day. Their honeymoon will be at Birkhall, on the Balmoral estate.
