POTA Review Panel finishes hearing in Guj cases Saturday, April 9 2005 18:53 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

The Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) Review Committee today (Apr 9, 2005) finished hearing on the applicability of the anti-terrorist law in 14 cases in Gujarat but has reserved its orders.
After hearing the POTA cases, the Review Committee would go to Jammu and Kashmir where it would scrutinise large number of POTA cases for review.
The Review Committee Chairman Justice (Retd) S C Jain told reporters that the Committee heard 200 accused in the 14 cases.
The Committee will decide on the applicability of POTA on these cases he said adding it would scrutinise individual cases.
The Committee heard the applicability of POTA in Akshardham terrorists attack case, Godhra train carnage, ISI conspiracy case, Tiffin bomb blast and former Gujarat Minister Haren Pandya assassination cases.
It heard the arguments of both the prosecution and the defence counsels in the Pandya's murder case in which 15 persons have been arrested under the provisions of POTA. Four are still absconding.
Pandya was gunned down on March 26, 2003 when he was going for a morning walk.
Vithal Pandya, the father of Haren Pandya had appeared before the committee and gave his affidavit.
