'Fresh elections is only solution to Bihar impasse'
Sunday, April 10 2005 11:22 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Charging LJP (Lok Janshakti Party) Chief and Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan with weakening the UPA (United Progressive Alliance), CPI (Communist Party of India) today (Apr 10, 2005) said fresh elections were the only solution to the Bihar impasse.

"Where is the solution? Finally we will have to go back to the people. We feel that Ram Vilas Paswan is weakening the UPA. The Congress and Lok Janshakti Party should have been more sober in their assessment," CPI National Secretary D Raja said in an interview published in the latest issue of RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) mouthpiece 'Organiser'.

Spotlight: Elections 2005

He was responding to a question on whether CPI, which was part of the RJD-led alliance and won three seats in the recent Assembly polls, foresaw an end to the Bihar impasse.

Showering praises on RJD Chief Laloo Prasad, he said, "One thing to be said in his favour is that at least he has been consistent in his fight against the BJP".

Raja also accused both the Congress and BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) of playing a "dirty role" with regard to the Patent Act.

"The Congress signed the WTO agreement which we opposed at that time. The Bill that came before Parliament was circulated during BJP's term. So the big two parties are responsible for this state of affairs. We don't agree with the definition of TRIPS. We will oppose the multinationals if they try to push up prices", the CPI leader said.

Asked what was the scope now since the Bill has been passed, he said, "We will demand that there is a mechanism to monitor the implementation process. We will be vigilant. This is only the third amendment. There can be fourth."
