Kathamandu:
Maoists attacked a prison in Nepal's Dolakha district, 175 km east of Kathmandu, killing two policemen and setting free at least 33 prisoners, police said yesterday (Apr 10, 2005).
Two policemen, including a sub-inspector, were killed in the jail attack in Charikot area of the district on Saturday (Apr 9, 2005) night, a police official said on condition of anonymity.
The rebels bombed and damaged half a dozen Government office buildings, including land revenue office, district postal office and police office before attacking the jail to free some of their comrades, police said.
The security forces have started search operation in the area after the attack.
The fighting started on Saturday night, which continued till yesterday morning, they added.
