Renowned English Prof Narasimhaiah passes away

Mysore: Prof C D Narasimhaiah, a distinguished Professor of English and a Fulbright scholar, passed away at his daughter's residence in Bangalore today (Apr 12, 2005).

Popularly called as CDN, Prof. Narasimhaiah, 84, was educated in the Universities of Mysore and Cambridge. He was a Fulbright visiting lecturer in various universities abroad. He had been to Bangalore to have his passport renewed, family sources said.

After his retirement as Principal of Maharajas College in Mysore from 1957-1962, he founded a research institute for English studies and indigenous arts called "Dhanyaloka".

He was honoured with various awards and conferred Padmabhushana in 1990. He was also honoured by Bangalore and Mysore universities with doctorate in literature, and has to his credit a number of literary works.

He leaves behind two daughters and a son.
