China willing to see India in UNSC; a step forward

Chandigarh: Prime Minister yesterday (Apr 13, 2005) termed as a "a step forward" China's willingness to see India as a member of an expanded United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

Asked at a press conference in Chandigarh about Beijing's support to India's membership in UNSC during Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao's visit to Delhi, Singh said, "This is a step forward. Before coming here they (China) said the matter of membership had to be a decision of consensus."

"This itself is a progress," the Prime Minister added.

Asked if in of improvement in relations between China and India he foresaw a bi-polar world in future, Singh said, "It does not depend on us."

He said that if countries like Poland and India also grow then they will be a force in their own way.
