Advani meets Vajpayee to discuss leadership issue Thursday, April 14 2005 15:14 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Under attack from Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president L K Advani met in New Delhi today (Apr 14, 2005) apparently to discuss the recent developments in the Sangh Parivar.
Advani went to Vajpayee's residence after paying floral tributes to the architect of the Indian Constitution B R Ambedkar at Parliament and was there for about 15 minutes, party sources said.
Although no comments from either leader were forthcoming, the two are believed to have deliberated upon the recent outburst by RSS supremo K S Sudarshan and VHP leader Giriraj Kishore both of whom asked them to step down and make way for youngsters. Sudarshan and Kishore had also ridiculed their six-year rule.
Neither Vajpayee nor Advani have reacted to the remarks made by Sudarshan and Kishore but it is expected that the former Prime Minister may speak on the issue when he addresses a public forum in Pune on the occasion of Ram Navmi.
The meeting between Vajpayee and Advani came shortly before the former was to leave for Pune.
The two, understood to have been saddened by the comments from Sudarshan, are believed to have discussed whether they should react to these and if so, in what way.
