CBI is now Congress Bureau of Investigations: BJP
Friday, April 15 2005 21:57 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Objecting to the Congress demand for a CBI probe into an allegation that Chief Minister Narendra Modi and senior bureaucrats had ordered elimination of minorities, BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) today (Apr 15, 2005) charged the ruling party with "misusing" the agency.

"In the last few months, the Congress-led Government had done everything to close the cases against their leaders and save them but have been pursuing a policy of vendetta whether in ordering CBI cases against NDA (National Democratic Alliance) convener George Fernandes or re-opening the Ayodhya case against BJP president L K Advani," party vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said.

The Congress, he alleged, was "trying to convert CBI into the Congress Bureau of Investigations".

Naqvi said the allegations against the Modi Government, whether in the terrorist encounter incident or in the matter of Zahira Sheikh "have fallen flat on their face".

"The Congress demand for CBI probe into the official's allegations reflects the party's political and mental bankruptcy," he added.
