Senior BJP leader V K Malhotra questioned why Additional DGP R B Sreekumar had remained quiet for three years if he really had genuine information.
Sreekumar stated in his application to the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) that during his posting as Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) he had got verbal directions from senior officials, who are also respondents, for illegal tapping of telephones, proposal to eliminate persons belonging to minority community.
"He had levelled these serious charges after he was denied promotion by the State Government for certain reasons. He is imagining things and concocting charges," Malhotra, Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha, told sources.
The BJP leader alleged that Sreekumar was trying to please the so-called "secular brigade" so as to get promotion.
He said that if his charges were genuine, he should be prosecuted for concealing information, which is a crime.
