NDA rule torpedoed Ram temple movement: VHP Saturday, April 16 2005 17:33 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Bhopal:
Stating that leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L K Advani should guide the young leaders, VHP today (Apr 16, 2005) accused previous Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) rule of torpedoing Hindu and Ram temple movement, failing in its friendship efforts with Pakistan and being responsible for communist surge.
"Hindu and Ram temple movement were torpedoed by NDA during six years of Vajpayee Government. Communists also surged ahead and came in such large numbers because of NDA policies," Vishwa Hindu Parishad's (VHP) senior vice-president Giriraj Kishore said in Bhopal.
Terming as "unsuccessful" efforts made during NDA rule to bring India and Pakistan together and ensure friendship between the two neighbours, he said that the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government has gone steps forward by doing "everything in Pakistan's favour and providing it many facilities."
Despite all these, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf says India is not most favourable nation for his country, he said replying to a query on Musharraf's India visit, and added that India has been winning wars from beginning but failing in diplomacy and today it needs to sharpen its diplomatic skills.
Claiming that infiltration from Bangladesh was tolerated due of vote bank politics, the VHP leader said that the situation could be reversed if Hindus become aware and emerge as a vote bank.
On need for Vajpayee and Advani to give way to young leaders, Kishore said that old leaders need not retire from politics but should only guide the party.
Asked about him and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief K S Sudarshan, he said, "We are not holding any office of profit. For us it is a means of rendering services to the mankind."
