Indian flag on Musharraf's plane shown upside down Saturday, April 16 2005 16:29 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Jaipur:
It was intended to symbolise Indo-Pak friendship, but turned out to be a faux pas of sorts. The Indian flag on the special Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane, which brought here Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, was displayed upside down, green on top and saffron below.
The aircraft had the tricolour on one side of its nose and Pakistan flag on the other as it landed from Islamabad carrying the VIP and his accompanying delegation.
However, the mistake was detected soon after Musharraf and his wife Sehba left for Ajmer in a helicopter, and was corrected.
The Indian Air Force helicopter, which ferried Musharraf to Ajmer, also displayed flags of the two countries.
The pilot of the PIA aircraft, Wasimul Islam, said it was a "human error and the moment we realised it, we corrected it.
"India's flag will always fly high and its honour will remain intact," he added.
