PM presents birth certificate to Pervez Musharraf Sunday, April 17 2005 15:24 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Evoking nostalgia for Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today (Apr 17, 2005) handed over to him a painting of the haveli in old Delhi where the visiting leader had spent his early childhood as well as his birth certificate.
After their two-hour-long talks at Hyderabad House, Singh presented to Musharraf a large painting of the Neherwali Haveli in Chandhi Chowk, where the Pakistani President's family lived before it migrated across the border.
Musharraf was also gifted three birth certificates - his own and those of his elder brother and sister.
The birth certificates were presented in brown leather folders.
Musharraf and his siblings were born in Lala Girdharilal Maternity Hospital located in Kamala Market in New Delhi.
A touched Musharraf appreciated the gesture and in return presented to the Indian Prime Minister an engraving enclosed in a wooden box.
The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) had scoured its old records and found three entries, of which two were of male children born on August 11, 1942 and July 22, 1945 who were identified as 'son of Musharraf'.
The third entry was for a girl child born on July 19, 1941, identified as 'daughter of Musharraf, son of Shaiffudin.'
Birth certificates prepared for the three children, delivered at the Lala Girdharilal Maternity Hospital were presented to the Pakistan President.
During their visit to the capital last month, Musharraf's mother and elder brother had visited the Hospital, in Kamala Market and expressed the desire to get the birth certificates of her two sons Javed and Pervez, born in that hospital in July 1941 and August 1942 respectively.
However, the official website of the Pakistan President gives his date of birth as August 11, 1943. The NDMC could not find any entry for that date.
