Former Governor of UP Vishnukant Shastri dead

Kolkata: Former Uttar Pradesh Governor Vishnukant Shastri died early today (Apr 17, 2005) of heart attack while he was on way to Patna.

Shastri was 76 and is survived by his daughter.

According to State BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) sources, Shastri left for Patna by Danapur Express last night to give a discourse on Gita.

He died in the train near Patna, the sources said adding his body will be brought here later in the day.

Shastri became the member of West Bengal Assembly in 1977 and was also a member of the Rajya Sabha. He was all India vice-president of the BJP before he took over as UP Governor.
