Basu says Congress is not listening to Left parties Monday, April 18 2005 08:08 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Kolkata:
Left mass organisations have the right to criticise the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government and even launch movements against it, if it did not adhere to the Common Minimum Programme (CMP), agreed upon by the UPA constituents, fully, the veteran Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) leader, Jyoti Basu, yesterday (Apr 17, 2005) said.
''The Congress is not listening to us properly and the anomalies in their words and deeds are prominent in many ways,'' Basu said addressing a rally of workers of different Left trade unions and mass organisation in Kolkata yesterday.
Although there was the Coordination Committee of Left parties in Delhi to interact with the UPA on policies and issues, the Congress-led alliance was not giving due weightage to its suggestions, Basu regretted, saying that the Left parties wanted the UPA Government to fully adhere to the CMP.
''We have the right to express our differences. In areas where the Congress-led Government was not implementing the CMP, we will launch movement,'' Basu said calling upon workers of Left mass organisations to make an awareness campaign on the issue.
The veteran Marxist leader said that the Congress was not doing 'self-introspection' to find out why it remained isolated from people. "They should do self-criticism as far as economic policies are concerned," Basu felt.
The forum of different Left mass organisations adopted a resolution containing a 10-point charter of demands, which would be submitted before the UPA Government.
