DRDO develops tool to sense low frequency noise Monday, April 18 2005 17:37 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Tiruchirapalli:
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) had achieved a breakthrough in detecting low frequency noise under the ocean, according to A Sivathanu Pillai, chief controller R&D, Ministry of Defence.
DRDO's unit at Kochi had developed the device, which could detect low-level noise under the sea. It would be of great help in submarine operations, Pillai, who is also the chief executive officer and managing director of BrahMos Aerospace, said in Tiruchirapalli yesterday (Apr 17, 2005) night.
The miniaturised version could also help in detecting the breath of a person under the ocean.
The device had undergone very successful tests after the earthquake in Gujarat. The labs at Kochi had manufactured sufficient numbers of the machines for future requirements, he said.
Typhoid detecting kit 'Sanjeevini' was another product from DRDO. While conventional detection would involve cumbersome process in detecting typhoid, the DRDO kit would detect typhoid in seconds, he said.
The Indian Medical Council had given its approvals to the kit and DRDO had applied for patent rights for its commercial production, Pillai said.
DRDO had also developed critical care neutralizer, which would help mountaineers. It makes breathing easy at high altitudes. The device was developed in association with
Coimbatore-based PSG College of technology, he said.
