Court declines to adjourn CM Jayalalithaa's case
Monday, April 18 2005 14:59 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Bangalore: The Special Court in Bangalore declined a plea for adjournment on hearing in the Rs 66.65-crore "disproportionate wealth case" against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa to a future date and posted the matter to be heard at 3 pm.

Defence advocates submitted that Jayalalithaa's counsel N Jothi is not well and has been admitted to hospital and sought adjournment of the case to Monday (Apr 25, 2005).

A visibly angry Special Judge A S Pachhapure said that the counsel's absence cannot be grounds for adjournment to a future date and said other advocates could argue the case.

"I can't go on adjourning", the Judge repeatedly said, and posted the matter for hearing at 3 pm.

Jayalalithaa has moved an application seeking clubbing of the "disproportionate wealth case" and "London Hotels Case", in both of which she is the accused number one.
