Moderate quakes jolt Andaman Sea, South Sumatra

New Delhi: An earthquake of moderate intensity shook the Andaman Sea region in the early hours today (Apr 18, 21005), the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in New Delhi.

The tremor, measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale, occurred at 03:08 hrs (IST), it said.

The quake was epicentred at 10.1 degree North latitude and 93.9 East longitude, the Met department added.

Earlier, a tremor measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale jolted the Southern Sumatra region in Indonesia at 02:54 hrs IST today, it said.

The quake was epicentred at 2.7-degree South latitude and 99 degree East longitude, the Met department added.
