New Delhi:
Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee has written to the Government seeking its views on the tabling of Phukan Commission report on various Defence deals entered into during the tenure of former Defence Minister George Fernandes, a demand put forward by the Opposition.
"I have said that so far as Phukan Commission is concerned the matter (Opposition demand) has been brought to my notice. There is some law. Everybody has to follow the law. I have asked the Government to give its response. I am waiting for it," he told reporters.
His remarks came shortly after the House was adjourned following protests from the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) against the filing of the second affidavit in the Supreme Court by the Government in the Kargil purchases case.
The Opposition had also demanded immediate tabling of the Justice S N Phukan Commission report, which enquired into various arms deals and had reportedly given a clean chit to Fernandes.
