Uma ready to quit politics if asked to by her guru Wednesday, April 20 2005 08:21 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Amarkantak (MP):
Fiery Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Uma Bharti yesterday (Apr 19, 2005) expressed her readiness to quit politics if her spiritual guru Swami Vishveshwara Teerth asks her to do so.
Uma told reporters in Amarkantak that she would certainly seek her guru's advice on the issue during a spiritual function to be organized by her supporters to be organized in Amarkantak on April 21.
She, however, said Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief K S Sudarshan's view about old leaders making way for younger ones was already being implemented on her. "I am just 45 but people have started considering me as retired," said a sulking Uma.
Uma said comments about her were being made in public and asked BJP to confine party discussions within closed doors.
"Any talk about the party should be made within closed doors. But talks about me are not held in closed doors. Comments on me are made in public," she said.
Claiming that the spiritual function being organised in Amarkantak on Thursday (Apr 21, 2005) was not a show of strength but purely a religious event, the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister asked her party MLAs MPs from the State to keep away from it.
"It's surprising that (Chief Minister) Babulal Gaur's throne shakes whenever I merely wave my hand," Uma said adding, "Gaur should not fear me. Why should I attempt to dislodge the Government which I myself have formed?"
