Ranna's 'gypsy' collection - a celebration of skirts Thursday, April 21 2005 21:59 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Ranna decided to start her show today (Apr 21, 2005) at the Lakme India Fashion Week with some gypsy carnival fun, with the models walking in and swirling around in their skirts. This "Gypsy" collection seemed to be a celebration of skirts. Ranna's gypsy was very modern who may have Indian roots, but still is a sexy girl of today.
Ranna used gotta, mirrors and paisely giving her garments a total ethnic feel. Her silhouettes were sexy with halter-tops, stretch dresses and strappy tops. Softness was added through ribbon ties and chiffon printed sashes, which added an element of girlie fun.
There were trousers in the collection often worn under kaftan dresses (which are now a trademark in Ranna's collection). These trousers were rolled to the knee, showing lots of leg.
There were gypsy dresses, tiered skirts and knee length gypsy skirts- giving her collection a feeling of free and easy movement. The use of sheer fabrics such as chiffon added to this feel. Colours were used but they never looked over the tops, as most of the colours used where on the muter side- such as ochre-orange, rose pink and grape purple.
Though there was one section of very dramatic black and tourquoise- jackets, skirts and tops. Using fabrics such as velvet and suede just made the black line look even stronger.
It was a collection that had high opulence as she used gold gotta and mirrors liberally all over, but still had a feel of Boho thanks to sashes and use of tie and dye. Another new element was the wing sleeve added to halter-tops and stretch dresses. This added a whimsical twist to these ultra sexy silhouettes. Ranna's "Gypsy" collection was for a strong woman who likes Indian touches and enjoys boho-chic.
