SC asks Pappu Yadav to cooperate with doctors Thursday, April 21 2005 19:10 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) MP Pappu Yadav, shifted to Tihar Jail to curb his illegal activities in Patna's Beur jail, was today (Apr 21, 2005) advised by the Supreme Court to cooperate with the doctors of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) if he wished to get specialised treatment for his ailments.
During the hearing an application by the Madhepura MP accusing CBI of trying to influence the doctors not to admit him to the hospital though he suffered grave ailments, a Bench comprising Justice N Santosh Hegde and Justice S B Sinha found from the doctors' report that he refused examination by specialists.
Giving another chance for his medical examination on April 26, the Bench said "if he desires specialised treatment at AIIMS, he shall go to the hospital" as desired by the
doctors and "without any pre-condition".
Even though Additional Solicitor General Amarendra Saran refuted the charges of the MP, lodged in judicial custody for his alleged role in the murder of trade union leader Ajit Sarkar, the Bench said treatment of accused persons should be "as free as that for a free person".
The Court said the doctors at the premier institution would examine and give proper treatment without being influenced by CBI as alleged by the accused.
