Uma vows to fight 'system and views' in the party Thursday, April 21 2005 17:12 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Amarkantak (MP) :
Declaring that she would not renounce politics, temperamental Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Uma Bharti today (Apr 21, 2005) hinted at taking on her critics in the party, as she expressed her anguish at the leadership's attitude towards her.
Addressing her followers in Amarkantak after closed-door consultations with her 'gurus' Swami Vishveshwara Teerth and Kalyan Baba, she said that she would play the role of 'Arjun' from mythical Mahabharata and would not hesitate to fight against her "own people" for strengthening the party and the nation.
"Mujhe Arjun ki tarah kaam karna hai. Apna paraya nahi dekhna hai, bas marna hai (I have to work like Arjun. I don't have to see own people or enemies but only kill)," Bharti said.
Pointing out that Arjun had to take up arms and fire at his own family members, including 'Bhishm Pitamah', the BJP leader said that she had asked party president to give her some work but he had not done so.
"I had not asked for any post but work but I was told that there is no work for me, I was kept away from the garden, which I nurtured with my sweat and toil," she said, declaring that the fight was not against any person but the "system and views" in the party.
"I don't want to harm my family (the party) but when the family becomes big, room has to be made for everyone. Otherwise there are going to be problems," Bharti said.
