Lineman allegedly to blame for collision appears

Vadodara/Ahmedabad: The lineman, whose error is said to have caused yesterday's (Apr 21, 2005) train collision at Samlaya, presented himself before the authorities at the station today (Apr 22, 2005).

Superintendent of Police Anoop Singh Gehlot told sources that his statement would be recorded later in the day.

Seventeen people had lost their lives and over 125 have been injured. The injured are being treated in hospitals in Vadodara, Halol and Jarod.

The railway track has been opened for two-way traffic and rescue and relief operations are over.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) team led by Sushil Kumar Modi appointed to look into the circumstances in which Laloo Prasad has made allegations about Narendra Modi being responsible for the attack on him is reaching Samlaya this afternoon and will later go to Vadodara to meet the injured in hospital.

The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) would conduct a public hearing into the Sabarmati train mishap at Samalaya junction tomorrow (Apr 23, 2005). He will also probe the various aspects, including human and mechanical error, that led to the collision, killing 17 persons yesterday.
