Commissioner of Railway Safety to probe collision Friday, April 22 2005 08:38 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Ahmedabad:
The Commissioner of Railway Safety would begin his probe today (Apr 22, 2005) into the collision of Ahmedabad bound Sabarmati Express train with a stationary goods train at Samalaya junction on the outskirts of Vadodara in which 17 persons were killed and over 125 injured, railway officials said in Ahmedabad last night (Apr 21, 2005).
"The Commissioner of Railway Safety Sudhir Kumar has already reached Vadodara and will begin his detailed probe into the mishap tomorrow," Western Railways chief PRO Shailendra Kumar told sources yesterday.
The official would look into all aspects that caused the collision and also into the human error part of it, Kumar said.
The electric signal maintainer at B-cabin of Samaliya junction was absconding and prima facie it appeared that he was at fault for the point setting that went wrong and misguided the speeding passenger train onto the track where the goods train was kept.
