New Delhi:
Best Bakery case key witness Zaheera Sheikh was yesterday (Apr 21, 2005) questioned by the Supreme Court appointed committee about the sources of various amounts of money deposited in her bank accounts after the Gujarat riots.
The Committee, headed by Supreme Court Registrar General B M Gupta, asked Zaheera why she had not provided details of the sources from which she got the money that were reflected in her bank accounts, official sources said.
Zaheera said that she was under the impression that only details of her bank accounts were to be provided but promised to give particulars of the sources from which she had received the monies.
Meanwhile, social activist Teesta Setalvad, whose role is also under scanner for filing of unsigned affidavits in the Supreme Court during the hearing of Gujarat riots cases, has been asked to appear on Monday (Apr 25, 2005) before Joint Commissioner of Delhi Police Kanwaljit Deol, who is assisting the Committee in the inquiry.
Zaheera was questioned by Deol yesterday. The Committee also asked Setalvad to appear before it for questioning and clarifications on Monday.
Faced with doubts about the veracity of Zaheera's contradictory statements and her accusations against Setalvad, the Supreme Court had constituted the inquiry committee.
