'BJP will come back to power without toppling UPA' Monday, April 25 2005 07:50 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Jaipur:
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) yesterday (Apr 24, 2005) said it will come back to power again but without manoeuvring or toppling the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre.
"Will return to power again after winning people's confidence, we will not manoeuvre or topple them," party president and former deputy Prime Minister L K Advani said in Jaipur.
"It was the BJP which broke down the one-party (Congress) governance and showed six years in power with coalition partners, but we are accepting the defeat in the Lok Sabha as a challenge," he said addressing the concluding session of Rajathan Panchayat Raj and elected representatives conference in Jaipur.
Advani said the dream of good governance (Suraj) could be realised by devolution of powers and funds to elected representatives of the Panchayati Raj institutions spread in villages.
"Though India got 'swarajya' (independence) in 1947, the issue of 'suraj' was still unanswered as poverty, illiteracy, backwardness, and absence of road, power, and water was quite rampant at every village level," he said.
Referring to late Rajiv Gandhi's statement that out of one Rupee only 10-15 Paisa reaches the villages, Advani called upon the delegates to show honesty, dedication and credibility to carry out public works extended and approved by the State Government.
