Innocent citizens of India and Pakistan would not be jailed when they cross the international territory inadvertently but would be handed over to their respective nation without any delay after the speedy process of confirmation of their antecedents, Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF), G S Gill said yesterday (Apr 24, 2005).
Speaking to reporters at Wagah, Gill, who returned with 16 other officials from Pakistan after attending the four-day high level meeting with his Pakistani counterpart at Karachi, said, "We have gone to Pakistan on April 21 to hold meeting with our counterparts with regard to discuss the border related problems faced on both sides."
This is the first time that Pakistan has arranged the high level meeting of two border security forces at Karachi. Earlier most of the meetings were held at Lahore, he said.
During the meeting various important issues, including curbing of cross border crime and smuggling of drugs were discussed, he said.
He said it was also resolved the border forces of the both the nations would not go for frequent firing particularly on Rajasthan border to avoid any mishap with innocent civilians.
Gill led the Indian delegation and the Pakistani side was represented by Major General Javed Zia, Director General, Pakistan Rangers of the Sindh province.
