National disaster management authority to be set up Monday, April 25 2005 09:34 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Bangalore:
A national disaster management authority would be constituted very soon under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil said yesterday (Apr 24, 2005).
Speaking at a meeting convened by the Karnataka Government to discuss naxal activities in the State, he said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had suggested that the States establish such authority headed by Chief Ministers.
The Home Minister also said that a commission - on the lines of Sarkaria Commission - would be appointed to look into the management of Centre-State relations in the "changed circumstances".
He said another commission would be constituted to go into the "concept of good governance". Good governance was not just computerisation of various departments. It should be sensitive to the people's needs and anticipate problems that might be faced in future and be ready with solutions. The committee would look into all these issues.
