Don Aftab Ansari convicted for murder, conspiracy

Kolkata: Aftab Ansari, the Dubai-based don, the main accused in the January 22, 2002 terrorist attack on the American Centre in Kolkata was today convicted for murder, conspiracy and waging war against the country.

Two other accused were released by released by judge Basudev Mazumdar.

Six other accused Jamiluddin Nasser, Rehan Alam, Adil Hasan, Musharat Hussain, Hasrat Alam and Shakir Aktar were also convicted.

Six others are still absconding.

Dilip Patel and Shakil Mallick were found not guilty and were directed to be released.

The quantum of sentence will be delivered by the judge Basudev Mazumdar tomorrow (Apr 27, 2005). The maximum sentence under the charges is death.
