Night curfew clamped along Tripura-B'desh border Tuesday, April 26 2005 16:32 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Agartala:
Night curfew has been clamped in the 300 yards along the entire 856 km long of Tripura-Bangladesh border for indefinite period to check smuggling, infiltration and border crimes, official sources said in Agartala today (Apr 26, 2005).
''We have laid importance to the curfew, though it is a routine matter, in view of the recent exchange of fire between Border Security Force (BSF) and Bangladesh Rifles
(BDR),'' the sources said.
The order follows the April 16 killing of BSF Assistant Commandant Jeevan Kumar by the BDR near Lankamura border outpost in West Tripura district, about 5 km from here.
The curfew would be in effect from 10 pm to 5 am and, during this time; nobody would be allowed to come out of their houses. In case any emergency like taking a patient to hospital; villagers would have to carry a lighted lamp.
Carrying of arms during the time was prohibited, the sources said.
Meanwhile, BSF Inspector General of Tripura, Cachar and Mizoram (TCM) frontier, S K Dutta today apprised Governor D N Sahaya of the latest situation in the border in Tripura.
Dutta yesterday (Apr 25, 2006) told reporters that there was no exchange of fire between BSF and BDR ''but we are keeping a close vigil on the situation''.
