3 Samalaya linesmen arrested for gross negligence
Tuesday, April 26 2005 09:05 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Vadodara: The three linesmen, who were on duty at the B-cabin of the Samalaya railway station on April 21 when the Ahmedabad-bound Sabarmati express rammed into a stationary train, were arrested yesterday (Apr 25, 2005) for "gross negligence", which resulted in the mishap.

The three linesmen - Jaysinh Lalsinh Vasava, Budubhai Punabhai Baria and Balwantsinh Baria - were named in the FIR filed against them yesterday and have been arrested, Railway Superintendent of Police A S Ghelot told sources last night.

They will be produced before a magistrate today (Apr 26, 2005), he said.

In the FIR serious charges has been made against the three, which include killing large number of persons, injuring more than 143 persons, damaging railway property and helping each other in committing the crime.

Their act amounted to killing of the passengers, railway police sources said.

The three accused had admitted that it was their mistake and had failed to inform higher-ups about non-functioning of the traffic signal system and took the decision on their own by changing the tracks of the train, railway police sources said.
