Fair inquiry into sexual harassment plaint: Tyagi Tuesday, April 26 2005 18:10 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Air Chief S P Tyagi today (Apr 26, 2005) said he would accord full protection to IAF woman officer Anjali Gupta, who has levelled sexual harassment charges against three officers, and that her complaint would be examined in a "transparent and fair manner but according to rules."
"I have 600 women officers in Indian Air Force and my prime duty is to ensure that any complaint from a woman officer is inquired into in a transparent and just manner," Air Chief Marshal Tyagi told newsmen.
"Gupta has given a written complaint of sexual harassment to me as well as to the Defence Ministry and we are making sure that it is looked into in a speedy manner and that the process of law is followed," he said asserting that his prime effort would be to ensure discipline in the force.
"Sometimes, the complaints are genuine and sometimes they are not. The inquiry already in progress will be very transparent, very fair and strictly according to the law," he said.
Tyagi made it clear that Gupta had lodged the sexual harassment complaint only after court martial proceedings against her were in progress on 13 charges, including insubordination, asserting that both the inquiries would go on simultaneously.
