Faux pas by Vajpayee cools tempers in Lok Sabha Tuesday, April 26 2005 18:22 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
A faux pas by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today (Apr 26, 2005) brought down the heat considerably in the Lok Sabha in the midst of acrimony over Railway Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav targeting the Sangh Parivar.
"Maine hamesha sansad ki garima aur maryada ka ullanghan kiya (I have always violated the dignity and decorum of Parliament)," said Vajpayee in a slip of tongue that brought the House down even as he was attacking Yadav for targeting the Sangh Parivar in the House yesterday.
He, however, corrected himself with the right Hindi word "palan kiya (respected)" adding it just slipped out of his tongue.
On the other side, Yadav brought some humour when he said that whenever the Sangh Parivar is in trouble the BJP (Bhartiya Janata Party) puts Vajpayee in the front.
The ruling coalition members enjoyed this but the Opposition demanded that it be expunged.
