Anjali case: Police serve notice on 2 IAF officers
Wednesday, April 27 2005 19:28 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Bangalore: Police today (Apr 27, 2005) served notices on two Indian Air Force officials to appear before them tomorrow (Apr 28, 2005) on a complaint of sexual harassment by IAF woman officer Anjali Gupta, but she herself did not accept the notice to appear before police.

Sqdn Ldr R S Choudhary, Adjutant and Wg Cdr V C Cyriac, Chief Administrative officer at the Aircraft Systems and Testing Establishment (ASTE), were served the notices by the Vimanapura police with whom Gupta had filed the complaint in February, police said.

Gupta, an education officer at the ASTE who is undergoing a General Court Martial (GCM) on different charges, did not accept the notice by the Bangalore police today. "Why should I accept," police quoted her as saying.

A notice to Air Commodore Anil Chopra, who was the commandant of ASTE, could not be served, as he has since moved to Delhi on a different posting, police said.

Gupta had filed sexual harassment complaint against the three officers, her superiors at ASTE, with the Vimanapura police in February, but the police did not lodge a first information report (FIR) on the issue, but instead gave an advisory asking her to resolve the issue with her superiors.

The advisory, coming three weeks after she filed the case, said that it was an internal matter of the IAF and "being the member of a disciplinary force (Defence), it is better to submit your petition to superior officers and get it solved."
