Best Bakery videotape seen first time in court: IO Wednesday, April 27 2005 08:26 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai:
The investigating officer (IO) in the Best Bakery carnage case yesterday (Apr 26, 2005) told the special court that he had seen the videotape of the bakery's burning for the first time in the special court on April 4.
During his cross-examination IO H G Baria told the court he used to keep the cassettes in his personal cupboard in the police station and saw the video for the first time in the court and was not aware for how much time the recording was done.
Baria whose cross-examination remained inconclusive will continue today (Apr 27, 2005).
Baria further said after he was transferred from the police station he was not aware in what conditions the cassettes were kept.
He said when he left the police station, he gave a certificate that the video shooting was done but did not have any papers to support the certificate.
The special court in Mumbai is conducting the re-trial in the case following a Supreme Court directive to hold it in Maharashtra. Fourteen persons were killed in the attack on the Best bakery at Vadodara on March 1, 2002 during the Gujarat riots.
