Vadodara:
Three linemen arrested on charges of "gross negligence" following the April 21 Sabarmati train mishap, have been remanded to seven days police custody.
The three linemen - Jaysinh Lalsinh Vasava, Budubhai Punabhai Baria and Balwantsinh Baria - were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate at his residence late last night (Apr 26, 2005), who remanded them to seven days police custody, Superintendent of Police Western Railway Anupam Singh Gehlot told sources.
The trio, arrested on Monday (Apr 25, 2005), has been charged for murder, attempt to murder and causing grievous injuries.
Various recorded data available from the control room suggested that they (linemen) were responsible for the mishap and without taking permission from higher authorities, acted on their own and diverted Ahmedabad bound Sabarmati express on the fourth track where a container goods-train was parked resulting in the mishap, Gehlot said.
Seventeen persons were killed and 143 others injured in the mishap.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will felicitate people from Samalaya, Devpura and Ganganagar for providing immediate relief to injured passengers and taking them to hospital saving precious lives.
